We’re focusing on the gap between the promise of God’s supernatural peace...and the reality of our unsettled emotions and turbulent minds. So first, we need to be aware of the gap...and then look to scripture for ways to close the gap between God’s promises and our realities.
In the first week of the series (about a month ago), I read this proverb:
Proverbs 18:14 NIV
14 The human spirit can endure in sickness,
but a crushed spirit who can bear?
This godly wisdom says that our “inner life” influences our fulfillment more than what’s happening to our physical bodies.
And the term scripture uses for emotional and mental unhealth is “a crushed spirit.” We’ve been looking at all the emotions and feelings that can cause a crushed spirit: stress, anxiety, depression, overwhelm, burnout, grief...and many more. And before we conclude the series...the bible gives us some pretty clear instructions on how to heal a crushed spirit...and I want us to look closely at those instructions.
But today, our heart is burdened for the lonely.
