Who We Are

These values, beliefs, and visionary statements have defined our identity as a church and reflect the convictions that have shaped our culture over the years. They reveal not only who God is calling us to be, but also where we're going as a church.

CHRIST

At Northplace, we exist to introduce people to God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Every worship gathering is centered on Biblical worship and teaching that seeks to help people discover more about who God really is and the life He’s called us to live. We believe that when people truly encounter Christ, their lives are transformed.

COMMUNITY

We were all created by God to do life with other people. Acts 2:42-47 is the model for the Biblical community and we believe that living in community is essential to your healthy spirituality and personal development. At Northplace, we seek to grow in our faith and build up one another through life-giving relationships, an opportunity that happens primarily through our small groups.

COMPASSION

The character of Christ is never more clearly displayed than when the Church and its members embrace the pain and poverty of others with grace and compassion. At Northplace, we seek to live our lives by serving with compassion, both locally and globally. We believe that living our lives on God’s mission is the most fulfilling place we could ever be.

We believe that Scripture is the final authority for Northplace Church’s Christian beliefs and it’s truth leads and guides every ministry and decision. This Statement of Faith is Northplace Church’s attempt to summarize what we believe to be the Bible’s essential and non-negotiables tenets of faith.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is God’s Word—accurate, authoritative, and applicable to daily life. The entire Scripture is verbally inspired, meaning both its ideas and words were guided by God as He moved the original writers. As God's revelation of Himself to humanity, the Bible is infallible and serves as the divinely authoritative guide for faith, belief, and living. (II Timothy 3:16, II Peter 1:20-21, Proverbs 30:5, Romans 16:25-26)

One True God

We believe in one eternal God, the Creator of all things, who is totally loving and completely holy. He has always existed without any outside cause and is the One who redeems, saves, and rescues mankind from sin. Though He is a single Being, He has revealed Himself as three interrelated persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, a concept known as the Trinity. (Isaiah 43:10, Genesis 1:1, Isaiah 43:11, Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, Luke 3:22)

Jesus Christ

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is fully God and has always existed without beginning or end. To fulfill His sacrificial mission, He became human, born of a virgin and conceived by the Holy Spirit. He lived a sinless life, performed miracles through the Holy Spirit’s anointing, and died on the cross as a substitute for the sins all mankind. He was raised from the dead by God's power and is now exalted, seated at the right hand of God. (Revelation 1:8; Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:31, 35; Hebrews 7:26; 1 Peter 2:22; Acts 2:22, 10:38; 1 Corinthians 15:3; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Matthew 28:6; Luke 24:39; 1 Corinthians 6:14, 15:4; Acts 1:9, 11, 2:23; Philippians 2:9-11; Hebrews 1:3)

The Fall

Mankind was created good and upright; for God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." However, mankind, by willful choice, ignored God's instructions and chose to engage in what they knew was wrong and evil. As a result, mankind fell from innocence and goodness and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God. (Genesis 1:26-27, 2:17, 3:6; Romans 5:12-19)

Salvation

Salvation is deliverance from spiritual death and sin’s enslavement, offered freely by God to all who believe. Redemption comes only through the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, as recorded in the Gospels. Salvation is received through repentance and faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection, which brings forgiveness and new life. In response, a person experiences spiritual rebirth, renewal by the Holy Spirit, and is declared right with God, becoming an heir to eternal life. (Luke 24:47; John 3:3; Romans 10:13-15; Ephesians 2:8; Titus 2:11, 3:5-7)

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit, as the third person of the Trinity, is fully God and works today to make people aware of their need for Jesus. The Holy Spirit is given as a deposit into a believer’s life upon salvation and empowers them for service, cleanses them from their old nature, and conforms them to Christ’s image. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a separate experience from salvation, and brings power for victorious living, effective ministry, and a deeper commitment to God. It also provides spiritual gifts, an overflowing of the Spirit, greater reverence for God, and an intensified love for Christ and His mission. All believers are entitled to and should seek the baptism in the Holy Spirit, which was the normal experience of the early Church. (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4,8; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31; Acts 8:12-17, 10:44-46, 11:14-16, 15:7-9; John 7:37-39; Acts 4:8; Acts 2:43; Hebrews 12:28; Acts 2:42; Mark 16:20)

The Church

We believe God has individually equipped us and gathered us as the Church to fulfill His purposes—that we (a) worship God, become a unified and mature body of believers, and seek and save that which is lost by sharing the Gospel. The Church, as described in the Bible, consists of all who place their faith in Jesus Christ. It transcends age, race, gender, and denomination, serving as the body of Christ and the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. Christ is the Head of the Church and has provided for its mission to make disciples who grow into the image of Christ. Every believer is an integral part of this body and its mission, with their names written in heaven. (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15; Ephesians 1:22-23, 2:22, 4:11-16; Hebrews 12:23; Luke 19:10; Revelation 19:10, 22:9; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:13)

The Second Coming

We believe that Jesus Christ will return as He promised and will reign on the earth, bringing peace and the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan. At His return, Christians who have died will be raised, and those still living will be caught up with them to be with the Lord forever. History will culminate with the final judgment, where those who have rejected Christ’s salvation will face eternal separation from God and will, according to His promise, look forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness will dwell forever. (Romans 8:23; 1 Corinthians 15:51-52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Titus 2:13; Matthew 25:46; 2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 19:20, 20:11-15, 21-22)

Spiritual Family

We believe that when you give your life to Jesus and are adopted into the Kingdom of God, He sets you in His family. God’s heart is not that we become a more efficient institution, but that we become a more unified and loving family, where all are invited. (Psalm 68:6, 2 Corinthians 6:18)

Extravagant Generosity

Extravagance is a language, and its the way we communicate with God. To be exceedingly generous with our time, talent, treasure, and devotion is how God has called us to live. This was modeled by God himself, who was generous to us beyond comprehension. (Mark 14:3-9, John 3:16)

Presence Centered

We believe that it is our job to create spaces where we can host the presence of God. It is by centering our lives on Him and His nearness that we are transformed. If we make room for Him through worship, prayer, and surrender, we trust that His presence is the ultimate agent of change in our lives. (Psalm 16:11, 2 Corinthians 3:17)

Contagious Community

We see the church as a Biblically-functioning community built on the foundation of loving relationships and uncommon vulnerability. That community changes lives through our weekend experiences, and is solidified during our small group interactions. We believe it's more than just a way of doing church—it’s a way of living life. (Acts 2:42-47)

Relentless Compassion

We believe that God has called us to reach forgotten people in forgotten places. When we live lives of complete surrender, we become kingdom builders who help connect the poverty and pain of the world to the grace of God. (James 1:27, Matthew 25:40)

Glocal Expansion

We believe something happens when the heart of a church turns inside out. When the family of God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, partners with the vision of Jesus to reach the ones He’s seeking, God’s kingdom expands both locally and globally. (Acts 1:8)

Biblical Balance

Balance is not the safe middle road. It is the passionate pursuit of both grace and truth, as seen in the life of Jesus and benchmarked by the intellectual understanding of the Scriptures. (John 1:14, Ecclesiastes 7:18)

Ceaseless Celebration

We see our interpersonal relationships, small group interactions, and our weekend experience as an opportunity to intentionally find and celebrate the goodness of God in all circumstances. Even in the face of harsh realities, we recognize that this is the Lord’s day and Has faithfulness is present in all things. (Philippians 4:4, Psalm 118:24)

Intentional Leadership

We are committed to developing servant leaders who have encountered God in such a profound way that the Gospel has transformed the way they think, live, and lead. Every believer at Northplace Church is not just a follower of Christ, but a dedicated servant and shepherd of people. (Matthew 20:25-28, 1 Peter 5:2-3)

Courageous Faith

We believe that when we walk in obedience and faith, God shows up in powerful ways. As this kind of courage is lived out in tangible acts of faith, it sets miracles in motion. When we move, “perhaps God will act on our behalf.” (1 Samuel 14:6)
