In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus lays down the principles that govern this kingdom of the reverse. Over the last few weeks, we have been looking into the Beatitudes…which are the introduction to the Sermon on the Mount. In the Beatitudes, Jesus describes the kind of life that God blesses and it’s often the opposite of what our culture things about blessings. We’ve looked at these counterintuitive statements of Jesus:
Blessed are the poor in Spirit…
Blessed are those who mourn…
Blessed are the pure in heart…
Because of the break in the conversation for Mother’s Day weekend, I considered moving on from the topic but I really sense in my spirit that God is trying to seed this deep into our hearts…so…I’m coming back to the Beatitudes today. As a matter of fact, I’ve already started preparing for our fall small group semester and sermon series. We are going to be studying the life of Daniel. Daniel shows us how to take this upside down kingdom life that is so opposite that of our culture and live it out in a practical way. If Daniel can flourish in Babylon, he can teach us how to flourish in a culture that is increasingly antagonistic to bible believing, fully devoted followers of Jesus.
