The Quest for Meaning

Every person is searching for meaning.

Every person is looking for something to tell them that their life is worth something. At the core of that desire is a Biblical truth: you matter, and your life has been designed to make a difference.

As counterintuitive as it feels, the Bible teaches that mattering in this life has very little to do with what we accumulate, achieve, or acquire. Mattering happens when a person knows they are valued and knows they have value to give.

This means that the answer to our search isn't found in what we store up for ourselves — it's discovered in what we give away.

How To Be a Difference Maker

Your most significant kingdom impact will not necessarily be a what, but a who. All of us have opportunities to develop the people around us. We may think, well, I'm not a pastor. You might say, I'm not some prominent leader in some significant leadership position, but all of us have different relationships where we can make a difference. Whether you're the boss of your company or department, a coach or a teacher, a parent, grandparent, brother, or sister, perhaps you lead a Bible study, still all of us have an opportunity to be a difference-maker by developing the people around us. Who's going to be a better version of themselves because you came into their life? Who's going to be more effective in what they do? Who will still be in the game a year from now, three years from now, five years from now, simply because you chose to encourage them to never give up? If you find yourself saying, I can't make a difference, this message is for you. Pastor Scotty's scriptural study isn't on the most notable figures in scripture, because you may look at that and think, "I could never lead like Paul. I could never develop like Moses." Instead, we're taking a look at an individual that you may know little about, but from whom you can learn a lot.

From Series: "Get Up And Lead"

At Northplace, we've been planning and praying over this year for a long time, believing God to do something special. This weekend, we're kicking off the year with a series called "Get Up And Lead." We have this sense that God wants to take some biblical principles from the life of Jesus to make you better in whatever area of influence you are. If you're a father, or you're a mother. If you serve in an office, you own a business, you're a coach or a teacher; there are principles in the word of God that will help you be better in that classroom or on that team. You don't have to just make it to the end of the day, you have a choice in life. You could be a thermometer and let your life be dictated by the temperature in the room, or you can be the thermostat; you can set the temperature in the room. We want to equip you to be the thermostat. We want to equip you to know how to set the temperature in whatever circle of influence that you have from a biblical framework.
