The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV
The other day, I was watching a documentary about a lady from a village in the mountains of the Middle East. The title of the documentary was, “How to Survive in the Mountains”. I was curious about the way she went to the river to look for food for that day. What captivated my attention was that on her back, she was carrying her three-year-old daughter. When they got to the river, she carefully observed to see what she was going to be able to catch that day, and in the distance, she saw a small crocodile. She ran off with only a long stick that, at the end, had a sharp tip, and grabbed the crocodile by the tail with one hand, while with the other hand, she held the stick and pricked his face until the crocodile was immobilized, which happened after an intense fight with the crocodile.
While all of this was happening, her daughter, from her mother’s back, shouted at her mother words and phrases like, “Beware!”, “You got it!”, “Oh, no!”, “Be careful!” and many others that I’m sure gave strength to her mom. But, never did the girl seem scared or worried, because she knew she was on top of the person who was not going to drop her, and would do anything to protect her. I imagine that in those moments, the words of her daughter gave her courage and strength to continue; although her burden was heavy, the mission in front of her was dangerous and she knew that if she made any mistake, not only would her life be in danger, but her daughter’s, as well.
This story made me reflect on verse 8 of chapter 31 in Deuteronomy, where God tells us that He will go in front of us, and He will never leave us or forsake us. Life will not always be as we planned and often we will allow negative thoughts to dominate our mind, when we do not make time to cultivate our relationship with God, and then we forget who is with us and where we would be if we did not have Him. Today I challenge you to be like that mom and allow God to tell you that He will never leave you, and that God is always with you.
Life brings struggles, trials, disappointments, and situations where you think you have no way out; but remember, don’t be afraid. I do not know what your circumstances are today, but one thing I do know is that God is “HERE” as He promised. He says in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Your strength comes from Him, therefore, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged,” because the Lord your God will always be with you, wherever you go.
