Christmas is Honest – Message in 10 Tweets

Christmas is different things to different people. Every one of us come at this season with our own ethnic and cultural approaches to Christmas. We all have our own unique and individualized nuances and traditions that make this holiday season special to us and our families.

This past weekend, we began the four-week Advent journey that will culminate with a very meaningful candlelight Christmas Eve Service. You will have five opportunities to experience a candlelight service with your family: on December 23rd at 3:00 p.m. & 5 p.m.; and on December 24th at 9 a.m. & 11 a.m; and 1 p.m. in Spanish language.

The launch of our newly redesigned website is allowing us to start a new series of posts. Every week, we’re putting together ten quotes from the previous weekend’s message. We hope you will share these with friends through your social media channels.

1Advent not only focuses on the salvation of man in the here and now; there is an intentional focus on the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent or Second Coming.
2When the Messiah comes He will heal us and our world in every way. Advent reminds us, if God can and will break into human history once to save us – like he did in that first Christmas – then he can break into our lives now to help and heal us.
3While none of us are going to have the same family traditions during the Christmas season, all of us should have the same singular focus on Jesus and what his coming means for humanity.
4 Our culture doesn’t know how to cure the evil and suffering that consumes it. If we think that we can work hard enough, long enough or unified enough to fix it ourselves; then we are thinking so foolishly.
5 Christmas is honest because it doesn’t ignore the darkness. “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light.” Matthew 4:16 NLT
6Christmas is honest because it recognizes the Light that dispels the darkness comes from outside of us.
7“Peace on earth; good will toward all men” Luke 2:14
8Christmas is honest because it doesn’t leave us hopeless.
9 1 Peter 2:9 NLT “…for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”
10 We don’t have to demonize the secular Christmas to see the honesty in biblical Christmas.

Christmas Is Honest

Advent not only focuses on the salvation of man in the here and now; there is an intentional focus on the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent or Second Coming. When the Messiah comes He will heal us and our world in every way. Advent reminds us, if God can and will break into human history once to save us - like he did in that first Christmas - then he can break into our lives now to help and heal us. Our culture doesn’t know how to cure the evil and suffering that consumes it. And if we think that if we work hard enough, long enough, unified enough, we can fix it ourselves; then we are doing so foolishly. Biblical Christmas is honest because it doesn’t ignore the darkness. “the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light.”
